+Fake-perfect resumes & CEOs hit the brakes

Signal Summary: AI is quietly hollowing out desk jobs while the guys with wrenches hold the line. Recruiters now spend their days sniffing out resumes that are too good to be true. And CEOs just got nervous enough to buy servers instead of people. Plus: a candidate who had the perfect crime and talked his way out of it.

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK ↓

SIGNAL 1
Wrenches beat keyboards
The scoreboard: The latest ASA | Bullhorn AI Job Impact data shows AI is picking its targets carefully.
Low-AI roles (truck drivers, mechanics): down about 13% since January 2023
High-AI roles (data entry, customer service): down 17% to 18%
Workers 25 and under: shrinking share of placements in high-AI roles
Translation: Nobody’s getting fired by a chatbot all at once. The job mix is just shifting month by month, slowly, like a “quick 15-minute call” that’s somehow at minute 48.
Reality check: September brought a small bounce for high-AI roles. One good month is a blip, not a comeback tour.
Signal → Strategy: Audit your open-req mix this week. Shift sourcing dollars toward drivers, techs, and trades, and build a reskilling track that moves young clerical candidates into roles AI can’t touch.

SIGNAL 2
Every resume is perfect now. That’s the problem.
Breaking: For the first time in 19 years of Employ’s Recruiter Nation report, recruiters’ #1 stressor is AI. AI-polished resumes (33%) finally dethroned “no qualified candidates.”
The damage:
27% report confirmed AI-driven candidate fraud, up from 23%
Half of fraud-hit teams have seen 50+ fake applications
66% say AI made their job easier, but only 18% moved most of their time off admin work
The twist: Candidates figured out AI before recruiters did. Every applicant is now a “results-driven, cross-functional visionary,” including the guy applying for overnight stocking.
Signal → Strategy: Check out Bullhorn Amplify’s new Verify digital worker, which flags AI-generated and fraudulent applications before your recruiters waste a phone screen on them. Spot the fakes before your client does.

SIGNAL 3
CEOs just got cold feet
The headline: The Conference Board’s CEO Confidence measure dropped to 46 in Q4, down from 52. Lowest since Q2 2025. Anything under 50 means the pessimists are winning.
The mood swing:
41% expect the economy to worsen in six months (up from 19%)
33% plan to grow headcount, 31% plan to cut it
36% plan to boost capital spending
48% say AI’s biggest value is cutting costs
Translation: CEOs are nervous about the economy, bullish on AI, and basically flipping a coin on hiring. They’ll buy servers before they buy people.
Signal → Strategy: Target clients stuck in that 33/31 headcount limbo. Pitch contract labor as the “maybe” button: capacity now, no permanent commitment, easy exit if Q1 gets ugly.

RECRUITING CONFESSIONAL
The Candidate Who Snitched on Himself
Recruiting Confessional A weekly series featuring anonymous stories from recruiting and staffing professionals. Submit yours here.
The Setup: Routine in-person interview. Important detail: the interviewer is roughly 80% blind.
The Disaster: Candidate reaches into his pocket for something else, and a bag of meth hits the floor. Given the interviewer’s eyesight, this was the perfect crime. Then he said, “Oh, sorry.” The interviewer asked, “For what?” His answer: “I dropped my meth.”
The Aftermath: Honesty is a core value. Just not in this particular moment.

Stop losing deals in between meetings.
Aligned is changing how B2B teams run their most important deals.
Most reps guess where a deal really stands. They forecast on a gut feeling and the buyer’s word vs what's actually happening. Then they realize the deal slipped through only after it's too late. Aligned surfaces what buyers are actually doing inside every deal: the risks, the openings, and the exact next step to keep things moving.
